External Sources of Funding
The main sources of external funding for MSc and PhD students in IHPME are CIHR and OGS. Other sources of support are available and students are encouraged to review the School of Graduate Studies Calendar (Financial Support). Eligibility criteria and application deadlines vary between awards and students should monitor this website regularly.
Federal Government Programs
Students interested in applying should contact the agencies directly. Application can often be made in the year prior to entry to the Program.

Teaching Assistantships/Research Assistantships
Because IHPME is solely a graduate unit, teaching assistantships are generally not available in the Institute. Students interested in teaching assistantships should contact those undergraduate departments that match their areas of expertise for TA opportunities. Opportunities for employment on research projects are frequently available for MSc/PhD students. Students should make their interests known to their Program Director and supervisors, and routinely check notice boards and the Institute website.
Loans
Students may also be eligible for support through student provincial loan programs. For Ontario based students, applications are available on line from the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP).
For students applying from other provinces, details should be obtained from your present university or provincial Ministry of Colleges and Unversities (or equivalent).
SGS Emergency Grant
The intent of the Emergency Grant Program is to assist currently registered, full-time, graduate students beyond their first year of studies who generally are not part of the funded cohort, and who encounter an unanticipated serious financial emergency. It is not considered to be a source of routine or long-term funding.
Additional information is available on the SGS website.
