2011 Leadership Award - Robert Biron
Robert Biron has worked in the hospital sector over 19 years in various capacities, primarily at the senior executive level. His professional credentials include a Master’s of Health Science (MHSc), Health Administration degree from the University of Toronto and a Canadian Health Executive (CHE) designation. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA) with a designated specialty in information technology (CA•IT).
Robert joined Northumberland Hills Hospital as their President and CEO in November 2008. Previously he served Guelph General Hospital from 1998, in the role of Vice President, Diagnostic & Support Services and Chief Financial/Information/Privacy Officer.
Over the years, Robert has served on a number of working groups and committees for the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and Joint Policy and Planning Committee (JPPC), and he has also served as a hospital peer reviewer for the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
He has sat on various Boards, including the Bennett Health Care Centre (2000 to 2004) in Georgetown, Ontario a long-term care facility, Medbuy Corporation (2002 to 2008) a hospital national group purchasing organization, and currently he is the Vice-Chair for the Board of the Hospitals Diagnostic Imaging Repository Service.
2011 Innovation Award - Dipti Purbhoo
Dipti has over twelve years direct experience in home and community health care, beginning as a Care Coordinator with the Toronto CCAC and advancing through the ranks to her current position as Senior Director of Client Services. She is a creative and innovative leader who focuses on new methods of service delivery that better the client experience. Dipti recently implemented a new population based model of care that changed more than 50 years of home care history, aligning services and supports to client populations. She has built an excellent reputation as an effective consensus builder with her ability to forge partnerships and strategic alliances among health, community and government sectors.
2011 Graduate Literary Award in Health Services, Policy and Management - Dr. Mohamad Alameddine
Mohamad Alameddine is currently an assistant professor at the department of Health Management and Policy at the Faculty of Health Sciences, American University of Beirut (AUB). He joined AUB in 2008 coming from the University of Toronto where he worked as a senior research associate and prior to that as Director of International Development at the Faculty of Medicine. Mohamad holds a PhD in Health Management and Policy from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Public health from AUB. His main research interests are focused on studying health human resources labor force dynamics, recruitment and retention practices and the quality of work environments. Mohamad has a number of publications in the field.
Graduate Literary Award in Health Services Evaluation - Dr. Liane Ginsburg
Liane Ginsburg trained in healthcare organization and management at the University of Toronto. She is an Associate Professor in the School of Health Policy and Management at York University and an Ontario Ministry of Health Career Scientist. Liane teaches Applied Research Methods in Health to 4th year undergraduate students in the Honors Bachelor of Health Studies Program at York. Her research interests focus on learning in patient safety and patient safety culture. Liane is also interested in knowledge translation, specifically with respect to the utilization of research, data and other information by health system managers and she is a member of CIHR’s KT peer review committee.
Liane is currently principal investigator on CIHR and CPSI funded studies and she has published most recently in Health Services Research, Social Science and Medicine, Quality and Safety in Health Care and Implementation Science.
