Recognizing Excellence
IHPME graduates are leaders in government, health care, academia and research – shaping our health care system through innovative and creative thinking and leadership.
The Society of Graduates supports and celebrates this excellence through its Leadership, Innovation and Literary Awards. Presented annually, the awards recognize the accomplishments and contributions of IHPME Alumni.

Leadership Awards
Purpose
One leader will be selected based on his/her contributions over a career in health services and one will be selected based on his/her recent innovations or achievement(s).
Awards

- Innovation Award
Each award recipient will receive:
- Invitation of award recipient and guest to the Annual Recognition Dinner.
- A framed certificate and $500 to be presented at the Annual Recognition Dinner.
- An interview in Longwoods, a national publication.
- Recognition on the IHPME website.
Eligibility
The nominees must be graduates from the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation.
Nomination Process
- Individuals may be nominated by a colleague who need not be a graduate of IHPME.
- Nominations must be accompanied by the nominee's curriculum vitae, or the nominee's contact information so that a CV can be obtained.
- A Selection Committee (appointed by the Executive Committee of the Society of Graduates) will review the nominations and make the award selections.
- Attendance at the Annual SOG Recognition Dinner is mandatory in order to receive the award.
- The award recipients will be asked to participate in the Selection Committee for the following year.
- Nominations must be received before June 30 of the current fiscal year.
Selection Criteria
The Selection Committee will review and select the winners based on the following criteria:
- Leadership Award
- demonstrated track record of leadership within his/her own organization, the health care field and/or community
- proven skill as a communicator and sponsor of change
- participation in educational and scholastic activities designed to add to the body of knowledge in the field of health care sector
- support of professional organizations dedicated to high standards of performance
- other relevant factors
- Innovation Award
- implementation of innovation that has received recognition by organization, peers or professions within health policy, management and evaluation
- demonstrated creativity or groundbreaking new thought with the potential to impact the health care system
- evidence of early leadership and the promise of significant contributions over his/her career
- generally early in his/her career
- other relevant factors.
Sponsors are requested to provide documentary evidence of the above in sufficient detail to allow assessment by the Selection Committee.

Graduate Literary Awards
Purpose
To stimulate the writing and publishing by graduates from the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, and to provide recognition to two graduates who publish superior articles each year.
Awards
- Health Services Policy & Management Paper
- Health Services Evaluation Paper
Each award consists of:
- An invitation to the Annual Recognition Dinner.
- A prize of $500.
- Publicity amongst the alumni community.
- A framed certificate, to be presented at the Annual Recognition Event.
- Recognition on the IHPME website.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be a graduate from the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation.
- Applicants must be the principal author or significant contributor of the published article.
- Articles must have been published within the past 12 months (July - June).
- Applications must be received prior to June 30 of the current fiscal year.
Selection Criteria
Articles will be judged by a Selection Committee (appointed by the Executive Committee of the Society of Graduates), based on the following criteria:
- Contribution to the field of health policy, health services management and evaluation
- Originality of thought
- Quality of discussion and analysis
- Author's ability to organize and present the ideas
- Clear conclusions and/or lessons learned
- Appropriate use of references
