Feedback from Preceptors

All MHI students participate in a four-month practicum placement within government, health service providers or the private sector.

The practica provide an opportunity to apply classroom learning to the real world with the support and supervision of preceptor—a senior health informatics or eHealth executive or manager within the host organization.

Here’s what our preceptors say about the practica and the MHI program:

  • The MHI provides an excellent opportunity for graduates to bridge their clinical knowledge and skills with both education and hands-on experience in the dynamic health information technology environment provincially, nationally and internationally.

Our intern integrated easily into our corporate environment, making significant contributions to our health system improvement projects. This very positive experience ensures that MHI graduates will be clearly on our recruiting radar in the future.

  • A clear strength of the program is the students’ diversity of backgrounds. The MHI gives them an organizing perspective for the field that allows them to integrate their valuable existing skills with new skills to tackle the variety of challenges in the HI field. We have been able to match students with projects that leveraged their backgrounds while giving them an opportunity to work with technologies that were new to them.

  • It has been our experience that the MHI students working with our program have been mature, professional, independent learners. Each student assimilated quickly and easily into our team culture and function. Their learning goals have been aligned with the needs of our program and to that end, they produced useful products and tools. They have been a pleasure to work with.

  • As a consulting firm focused exclusively on IT/eHealth, Healthtech’s experience with MHI practicum students demonstrates that the program is providing the support and academic training that prepares them for real world experience. Healthtech is an active supporter of the program, creating a win-win-win situation for the students, our clients and us.

  • Saint Elizabeth has had the pleasure of working with several MHI program students over the past years. Being able to direct and tailor the practicum to our organizational objectives has meant a true partnership resulting in learning and outcomes for both Saint Elizabeth and the students.
